Stoneshade would always wake up slowly, like the trees toward the end of leafbare. It started with the smallest of movements, a limb stretching, whiskers twitching, before slowly moving into the slightest crack of his eyes opening, amber peering out under heavy eyelids, across the clearing floor. Not a movement beyond that breaks his peace, however slowly his mind would catch up, and bring him to reality, where the voices and figure of the camp bustled about, always so focused and keen on whatever it was that they deemed their task for the day. It always brought an odd peace to him, watching them, yet not quite understanding their insistence on constant movement.
Slowly, and eventually, Stoneshade’s jaw broke open in a yawn, yet, his remained still, his tailed tucked up close, as he lay on his side, curled up in a comfortable ball, another rock around the corner of the open clearing, the same place he slept every night that guard duty was not deemed his duty. When he’d fallen asleep, Stoneshade couldn’t say, however it must have been around sun high. After all, the sun was well on a descent toward the horizon, perhaps making it mid-afternoon. The grey tom let out a long, low sigh, eyes blinking a few more times before more carefully, he scanned the area.
It seemed like the camp was relatively crowded, not enough to say that everyone was back, but, likely enough most of the clan were switching between tasks, into their new jobs of the afternoon. It was enough to make the smallest of chuckles escape him. No doubt Wormpaw was around somewhere being put through his paces by another of the warriors. He was in no rush to train his apprentice in the fastest way possible. He’d learn just as much being with others as he would be sticking around camp. Slowly, Stoneshade untangled his limbs, and rolled onto his belly, jaws opening in another yawn.
Yet, despite consciousness taking hold, the tom didn’t move, instead just casting a gaze out across the camp, searching for familiar faces. He certainly wouldn’t mind catching his sister for a moment. Redstar always needed a break at the best of times. However, finding Sheepwhisker or Wormpaw would hardly be a waste of effort. Who knew, maybe it would be the time for a new conversation, a new moment. The tom’s ears pricked slightly, sure for a moment he heard the leader’s voice. Ah, maybe he was just hearing his sister everywhere now.
